MIGUEL ANGEL VERGARA
Miguel Angel is a Maya Priest and Master Teacher who lives and works in Yucatán, Mexico. He studied with Maya Elder Vicente Martín for 17 years and continues to work with the Elders and Priests who are keeping the Maya Sacred Wisdom very much alive today.
Working as a director at Chichen Itza for 4 years, Miguel Angel experienced the truth of the Maya Calendar with his first-hand observation and study of the KuKuulKaan pyramid as a Cosmic Calendar. His continuing study and his vast experience give his students a deeper level of understanding the Maya Calendar system and how it can benefit their life today.
He teaches us how to connect with the Maya Masters of Light who are still at the sacred sites ready to guide us today as in ancient times.
The Calendar is all about energy – how to access it and how to use it to improve your life. It can be used as a healing tool, or a map to prosperity, a way through depression, a path to discover your mission, who you truly are and it is always leading you to peace, harmony and balance. Each lesson is designed to give you a deeper understanding of an aspect of the Calendar along with the tools and practices to bring it into your life in meaningful ways.

– A deeper understanding of the glyphs in the Haab and Tzolkin Calendars.
– The “New Fire” of the Cycle of 52 Years.
– The “Birth of the World” with the Long Account Calendar.
– A study of the Pyramid of KuKuulKaan at Chichen Itza, a model dedicated to the Maya Calendars and described in the Madrid Codex.
– We will close with a look at Venus, the Morning Star and its Cosmic Cycles as an example of spiritual evolution open to us now through the amazing Maya Calendar system.

Live zoom lectures and meditations from 11:00am to 1:00pm and again at 7:00pm to 9:00pm Mexico City Time each Tuesday. Same content but two opportunities to join a live session. Recordings sent if you miss the live session or want to review. Handouts will be emailed to be printed out to refer to during the lectures. Supplementary videos will be supplied where applicable and suggestions where to obtain other supportive material.

Birth and Evolution According to the Chilam-Balam of Chumayel
There are stories that know neither time nor space and transcend into our deepest thoughts. The book of “Chilam Balam of Chumayel” has this characteristic as it takes us back to the level of Maya philosophical thought and explains in its own words how the days were born and how the months and time take shape in the Mayab, the land of the chosen, where the Earth had not yet woken up, and the masters and gods gave strength and energy to Time so that it could walk, move and start the cycles.

The Maya Solar Calendar “HAAB” of 365 Days.
The Sacred meaning of the 19 Months.
The meaning of HAAB in the Maya language is “Measure of time and the end of a cycle”. This Calendar consists of 365 days that mark the 4 seasons of the year, the movements of the Earth in relation to the Sun through the equinoxes and solstices and the 4 directions of the universe, which is a symbol of the Maya Cross in motion. It was used by the Maya Masters to determine the dates that energy changes would occur on our planet. Above all, they used it to look at the 4 seasons of the year and the Zenith of the Sun and how they would affect human beings.

The Sacred meaning of the 20 Days
The Tzolkin Calendar is the Sacred Calendar that brings together the Cosmogenesis: The philosophical, psychological, mystical and religious. The application of the Calendar allows interpretation and understanding of the nature of every day. It is made up of 13 day cycles, which can be related to some physical and philosophical aspects of the rattlesnake (Maya symbol of wisdom).
The number 13, in its most profound concept, reminds us of the immortality of the soul to the spirit of life, to the immortal spirit that lives in each one of us.

Importance of the Cycle of 52 years
A look at the Sun, Moon, Pleiades, Venus and the Burning of the New Fire (TUMBEN-KAAK)
The alternating movement of the 365-day HAAB calendar and the 260-day Tolkin calendar make it so the calendars coincide on the same day and the same number every 52 years. This is the Pleiades Cycle.
The Sacred Cycle of 52 years was very important for the Maya because it was on this day that they celebrated a great ceremony called: “TUMBEN-KAAK” or “KAAK-TUN” in the Maya language which means NEW FIRE. It was a moment of great renewal linking the life of humanity with the cosmic life.

The Long Account Maya Calendar
The Birth of the World
This cycle spans a period of 5,200 years that began on the date: 4 Ahau 8 Kum-Ku, the day of the creation of the world. This is the day of solar divinity. It is written as: 13.0.0.0.0. The date corresponds to the 12th of August of the year 3113 of the Gregorian calendar.
This date, the date of the birth of the world, was carved in Stela “C” in the Maya site of Quirigua in Gautemala and can still be seen today.

The pyramid of KuKuulKaan is first of all a Universal Solar Calendar which permits us to confirm accurately the five movements the Earth carries out in relation to the Sun through the phenomenon of light and shadow that is observed on this stone structure.
- 2 Equinoxes: Spring and Autumn
- 2 Solstices: Winter and Summer
- Zenith of the Sun on the 16th of July, the date on which the Maya New Year begins.
As we study and symbols of its Cosmic Architecture as found in the Madrid Maya Codex we are reminded that “we are the temple”. It is the energy of the Serpent of Light within us which brings forth the possibility of making us Conscious human beings at the level of the Wisdom of the Maya.
